If someone in your company already uses AI, it is probably ChatGPT on a personal account. Here is the comparison, based on Anthropic's and OpenAI's official information as of October 2026: what each plan includes, what it costs per person, what happens to your data and which one suits each type of business. Plans change often, so every figure is dated.
Which models do Claude and ChatGPT use as of October 2026?
Both release new models every few months; what matters is which plan gives access to each. As of October 2026:
- Claude (Anthropic): Opus 5.5 (September 2026), powerful for everyday work; Sonnet 5.5, balanced; Haiku 5.5, fast and inexpensive; and Fable 5.1, the most capable, for demanding reasoning and long tasks. The free plan uses Sonnet and Haiku; Opus comes with Pro.
- Fable in Claude: on Pro and standard Team seats it is paid separately with usage credits; on Max and Premium seats, up to 50% of the weekly limit at no extra cost.
- ChatGPT (OpenAI): the GPT-6 family arrived in September 2026 in three versions: Astra (the most powerful), Sol (balanced; GPT-6.1 Sol comes close to Astra at a lower cost) and Luna (the fastest). It sits alongside GPT-5.6.
- Astra in ChatGPT: in chat it appears as GPT-6 Pro and is only on Pro, Business and Enterprise. Plus users can use it in ChatGPT Work and Codex, with limited usage; in Plus chat the top model is GPT-5.6 Sol.
For emails, copy and summaries, start with your plan's default model: the top models use up your limits fastest.
How much do Claude and ChatGPT cost? Plans and prices
Official prices as of October 2026, in US dollars excluding tax (what you pay depends on your billing currency and taxes). Note that the team plans cost exactly the same.
A team of five on monthly billing pays $125 a month with either, so decide on usage limits and what each seat includes.
| Plan | Claude | ChatGPT |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0: Sonnet and Haiku, up to 5 projects, web search, memory and connectors | $0: unlimited text chat (with safeguards) and limited tools; ads in some countries |
| Budget | None | Go: price varies by country; more usage than Free, no GPT-5.6 Sol; ads in some countries |
| Individual | Pro: $20/month ($17/month billed annually) | Plus: $20/month |
| Heavy use | Max: from $100/month (5x or 20x Pro usage) | Pro: $100, $200 or $500/month |
| Team | Team: $25/user/month ($20 annual); Premium: $125 ($100 annual); 2 to 150 seats | Business: $25/user/month ($20 annual); Premium: $125 ($100 annual); from 2 seats |
| Large company | Enterprise: $20/seat/month billed annually plus usage at API rates; 20-seat minimum | Enterprise: price on request from sales |
Pay monthly for the first two months: the annual saving, about $5 per person, is not worth picking the wrong tool.
What usage limits does each one have?
Neither promises a fixed number of messages: it depends on the model, conversation length and tools. What they do publish:
- Claude: works in 5-hour sessions plus weekly limits. Pro gives at least 5x free usage; Max, 5x or 20x Pro; a standard Team seat, a bit more than Pro; and a Premium seat, 5x standard.
- ChatGPT: everyday text chat is unlimited even on Free and Go, but file uploads, image generation and data analysis are capped. On Plus, Astra gives an estimated 5 to 45 messages every 5 hours in Work and Codex. On Business, a Premium seat offers 5x standard usage with no 5-hour limit.
Limits mostly bite with long documents, top models and agents; Premium seats exist for those people and can be mixed with standard seats in the same team.
Which is better for writing, translation and Excel work?
We have found no official data comparing their writing quality in Catalan, and any ranking goes out of date with the next model. Both reply in whatever language you write in and handle emails, product descriptions, review replies and translation. What you can compare:
- Catalan interface: ChatGPT has one. Claude offers Spanish (Spain), French or English, but not Catalan.
- Excel and Office: both have an official add-in. ChatGPT for Excel and PowerPoint is available on every plan, including Free. Claude for Excel needs a paid plan and shares context with its PowerPoint, Word and Outlook add-ins.
- Documents: both read PDFs, Word files and spreadsheets (uploaded or in Drive, OneDrive or SharePoint) and can hand back a finished document or spreadsheet.
Run the test that matters: give both the same customer email, the same sales spreadsheet and the same text to translate into Catalan, and let the person who will use it every day decide.
Coding, web search, images and voice
If you run a restaurant, shop or gym that posts a lot on social media, focus above all on the difference in images:
- Coding: Claude Code (from Pro) and OpenAI's Codex (limited on Free and Go, full from Plus) are agents that write and fix code.
- Web search: both search the internet on every plan, including Free. For long reports, Claude has Research (paid plans) and ChatGPT has deep research (limited on Free and Go).
- Images: ChatGPT generates and edits images with Images 2.5 (September 2026), which OpenAI says is much better at text inside images and supports banner and poster formats. Claude does not generate photos or illustrations: it creates diagrams, charts and interactive visuals.
- Voice: ChatGPT offers basic voice for free, expanded on Go and Plus and unlimited on Pro. Claude has voice mode on every plan, still in beta, with languages other than English also in beta.
Memory, connectors and agents: which fits your tools better?
This is what changed most in 2026, and where the most hours can be won back:
- Projects and memory: both have projects (spaces with their own instructions and files) and memory across conversations. Claude turns it on by default on Free, Pro and Max, while on Team the admin decides. In ChatGPT, memory is limited on Free and expanded on paid plans.
- Google Workspace: both read and write in Gmail, Calendar and Drive. In Claude, sending an email or sharing a file asks for your approval by default.
- Microsoft 365: Claude connects to Outlook, calendar, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams, with write access enabled by the admin. ChatGPT has apps for Outlook (email and calendar), Teams and SharePoint (Microsoft Entra admin permissions required).
- Slack: ChatGPT has a Slack app from Plus upwards: it summarises channels, drafts messages and searches. Claude Tag (beta) lets you mention @Claude in channels; it is Team and Enterprise only, billed by usage, and does not require a seat per person.
- Agents: ChatGPT Work (July 2026) prepares documents, spreadsheets and presentations from your apps, schedules tasks and, on desktop, can operate your computer; full access from Plus. Claude Cowork (paid plans) works with the folders you authorise and with the browser, and runs scheduled tasks in the cloud.
To go further and chain tools together, see our guide to AI automation or the custom AI agents we build.
Before connecting the whole company's email or Drive, start with one account and read-only permissions. Sending, deleting or sharing should always need approval.
Do they train on your data? Privacy and availability in Andorra
The rule is the same for both: on individual plans (Free, Pro and Max in Claude; Free, Go, Plus and Pro in ChatGPT), your conversations may be used for training unless you switch it off; on business plans (Team and Enterprise; Business and Enterprise), they do not train on your content by default. The details:
- Claude: on an individual plan, if you allow training your data is kept for up to 5 years; if not, 30 days. On Team and Enterprise, 30 days by default.
- ChatGPT: training is switched off under Settings, Data controls. Temporary chats are not used for training. Note: a thumbs-up or thumbs-down can send that conversation for training even if you have opted out.
- Ads: since 24 August 2026, ChatGPT shows ads on Free and Go in 31 European markets (the EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland). Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise are ad-free.
- Andorra: both services are officially available in Andorra.
If you handle customer or patient data, Andorra's Llei 29/2021 qualificada de protecció de dades personals applies: use a business plan, review the provider's data processing agreement (DPA), reflect it in your privacy policy and do not upload clinical records or sensitive data without proper controls.
An individual plan paid for with the company card is not a business plan: your data is still under consumer terms.
Claude or ChatGPT: which should your business choose?
There is no winner for everyone. This is what we recommend by profile:
- Sole trader or small firm that writes a lot (accountants, lawyers, estate agents): either one on the $20 individual plan. If you live in Word, Excel and Outlook, try Claude first; if you want a Catalan interface or the Excel add-in without paying, ChatGPT.
- Shop, restaurant or hotel creating social media content: ChatGPT, for image generation and voice. Plus or Business depending on how many people use it.
- Team of 3 to 20 people handling customer data (clinic, estate agency, advisory firm): a team plan, no question, for privacy and admin control. If your day-to-day is Excel, Word and Outlook, Claude Team; if visual content matters more, ChatGPT Business.
- Business with its own website, online shop or development: both include a coding agent from the paid individual plan (Claude Code and Codex). Try both on the same real job.
- Both at once: makes sense when each department uses one (say, ChatGPT in marketing and Claude in admin) or when a key person wants to cross-check important answers.
Getting value from either depends on your team knowing what to ask and how to check the output: that is what our in-company AI training is for. To put numbers on it, try the AI savings calculator.
